This book has sketched the application of Muslim Law in India from the time of the Moghul period and progressively updated to the span when the British ruled India. Subsequently, its application has been studied from the time India won its freedom from the British Raj to the present moment. This period has been dealt with in detail since it is more relevant to our topic. It has been observed that the Muslim Law, during the Indian rule after gaining independence from the British rulers, has gone through a tortious time. Its very existence has been challenged and no effort has been spared to legislate for the Uniform Civil Code which would make the Muslim Law redundant in India. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board was registered as a Society to further the cause of Muslim Law. However, their performance, very mildly put, was well below expectations. As a matter of fact, they lost the trust of a majority of the Muslim community in India by making diktats that were questionable and allegedly did not reflect the legislation in the Quran. This was particularly in the cases of Divorce under Muslim Law. Hence the emergence of various Muslim Organisations.
